Error: Error writing to LPTx...(due to Window 3.1 device driver not compatible).
Error:
Error writing to LPTx for Printer <xxxx>, there may be a problem with the Network or the password is incorrect.
Cause:
This error occurs after upgrading from Windows 3.1x and loading a Lexmark LEX01.386 driver or a Panasonic KXP-6100 driver. The Windows 3.1x virtual device driver writes directly to the parallel port and locks out other printer drivers. These drivers are not compatible with Windows 95.
Solution:
Comment out the Device= line referring to the driver in System.ini.
1) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
2) Select 'Run...'. (The 'Run' dialog box appears.)
3) Type SYSTEM.INI in the 'Open' drop-down list box and click 'OK'. (The System.ini file appears in the 'Notepad' window.)
4) Make a backup copy of System.ini:
a) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Save As...'. (The 'Save As' dialog box appears.)
b) Type 'SYSTEM.BAK' in the 'File name' box and click 'Save'. (This saves a backup copy of System.ini.)
5) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Open...'. (The 'Open' dialog box appears.)
6) In the 'File name' box, type SYSTEM.INI and click 'Open'. (The System.ini file appears in the 'Notepad' window.)
7) Locate ONE of the following lines in the [386Enh] section:
DEVICE=c:\<path>\LEX01.386
DEVICE=c:\<path>\SUMOVMI.386
8) Type a semicolon (;) at the beginning of the line to remove the line. (This prevents the device driver from loading.)
9) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Save...' to save the System.ini file.
10) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Exit' to close the 'Notepad' window.
11) Close all open applications.
12) Restart Windows:
a) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
b) Select 'Shut Down...'. (The 'Shut Down Windows' dialog box appears.)
c) Select the 'Restart the computer' radio button and click 'Yes'.
